Who Owns the “Net”

Cio Blogs has an interesting article on who owns which internet routers. It surprises me that there are 134,000+ large routers just in the U.S. I guess that explains how Cisco made its money back in the Dot era. It’s also interesting to see where all the connections and interlinks collide, it would be interesting to pin point where the largest most well connected co-lo/datacenters are.

Who owns the Internet? We have a map that shows you.

What is this ball of colors? It is the North American Internet, or more specifically a map of just about every router on the North American backbone, (there are 134,855 of them for those who are counting).

Click the image to get the large version, here is where I become jellous of the 24" LCD owners even my 1280x1024 res screen needs to be set at 150% to see alot of the detail but then I only get a small piece of image.
